A low pressure system moves to be centred east of the South Island overnight. Expect showers on the West Coast of the South Island, mainly dry in the east although there could be a few heavy showers this evening about coastal Otago then clearing. For the North Island expect fairly cloudy skies, west to northwest breezes. Rain about Wellington this evening then moving further north overnight.

Areas of high cloud with west to northwest breezes, cloud thickening
overnight.

Auckland & Northland

Mostly cloudy with west to northwest breezes, showers towards dawn tomorrow
morning for Auckland and a shower or two may appear on the west coast of
Northland by then.
Tonight’s Lows: 15-18

Central North Island, Lake Taupo,
Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Cloudy skies with westerly breezes, rain moves into the Central North
Island overnight then the Waikato towards dawn. Chance of a shower about the Bay
Of Plenty towards dawn tomorrow however rain is more likely there from
morning.

Eastern North Island

High cloud with northwesterlies, gusty at times for some especially about
the Wairarapa. A few spells of rain pass over the Wairarpa later this evening and then
towards dawn for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.

Western North Island

The odd spot of rain becoming a little more widespread later this evening.
Northwesterlies (strong for some) change westerly overnight with rain easing to
the odd shower.
Tonight’s Low: 15

Wellington

Rain moves in this evening with strong northerlies, gusting to gale force
at times. Rain clears just after midnight with northerlies then gradually easing
and cloud breaking away.
Tonight’s Low: 16

Nelson & Kateriteri

Some rain this evening with strong northerlies. Rain clears around midnight
as winds tend southwest, cloud breaks away overnight leaving clearer
skies.
Tonight’s Lows: 15-16

Marlborough

The odd spot of rain clearing around midnight, cloud breaking up overnight
with clear skies developing. Gusty northwesterly winds ease.
Tonight’s Lows: 13-14

Canterbury

Chance of a spot of rain this evening then clearing with high cloud
clearing, northwesterly breezes. Winds tend light west to southwest
overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 12-13

West Coast

Showers with westerly breezes, rain about Buller eases this evening to
showers.
Tonight’s Low: 13

Coastal Otago

Winds change soouthwest this evening with showers, chance of a heavy fall
and thunderstorms then clearing before midnight. Westerlies overnight with clear
spells.
Tonight’s Low: 12

Central Otago

Some cloud with westerly breezes, chance of a shower. Towards dawn tomorrow
morning southwesterlies freshen with rain.
Tonight’s Lows: 10-11

Southland

Some cloud with westerly breezes, chance of a shower. Overnight some rain
moves in as southwesterlies freshen.
Tonight’s Lows: 10-11
