A cold front moves onto the lower South Island this evening and reaches North Canterbury by dawn tomorrow. The North Island remains fairly settled under a ridge of high pressure.
Auckland & Northland
Mainly clear skies with light west to southwest winds. Some cloud developing towards dawn tomorrow.
Lows tonight: 6-7
Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Mainly clear skies with some cloud developing overnight, mainly in western parts of the Waikato and Central North Island. Westerlies.
Lows tonight: 2-5
Eastern North Island
Mainly clear skies with light winds, some high cloud about Wairarapa towards dawn.
Low tonight: 3-5
Western North Island
Cloud increasing overnight with west to northwest winds.
Lows tonight: 6-8
Wellington
Areas of cloud increase overnight, northerlies.
Low tonight: 8-9
Marlborough & Nelson
Mainly clear skies overnight with light winds, some high cloud towards dawn.
Lows tonight: 3-5
Canterbury
Clear with light winds and some developing high cloud for North Cantebrury overnight. Not till dawn tomorrow does cold southwesterlies develop with rain and snow to 400m. About South and Mid Canterbury expect similar conditions at first however rain develops from mid way through the night with south to southwest winds and snow to 400m.

West Coast
Rain develops about Fiordland this evening then pushes further north overnight. Rain and snow to 500m clears about Fiordland overnight as winds change southwest.
Lows tonight: 5-6
Coastal Otago
Cloudy areas, rain develops around midnight with winds changing west to southwest. Rain then clears before dawn with dry weather for a time.
Low tonight: 5
Central Otago
Cloudy with rain developing tonight, westerlies change more southwest overnight. Snow to 800m at first lowering to 200m by dawn tomorrow.
Lows tonight: 1-2
Southland
Rain this evening then easing to showers at night, westerlies. Showers may be heavy at times with hail. Snow to 400m lowers to 200m around dawn.
Lows tonight: 3-4
