We also take a look at Auckland and Nelson anniversary weekends – and the chance for more isolated heavy downpours in the north, especially on Saturday.

NZ Herald, your sponsors for this vid are calling this ‘Weather Madness’. Yes, heat, humidity and thunderstorms are completely unknown in January. Actually I jest. But your headline of ‘Unsettled’ pretty much hits the mark. Good on you for not sensationalising the normal.

Hi Andrew, appreciate your feedback. We are always working positively with media outlets to lift accuracy in news – and sometimes a headline is created because the public are the ones saying the weather is crazy, and the story is trying to reflect that common feeling in the public – not trying to assert this is unusual weather. However on our site we need to be far more factual and specific in reporting “Weather” – because it’s our job to sometimes say “yes, it’s hot – but it could be a few degrees hotter, and it has been in the past” 🙂
Cheers
Philip Duncan
