Here’s what is making the weather headlines today….
FRONT IN THE SOUTH, HEAVY RAIN, HEAVY SNOW IN THE RANGES
A front has moved into Fiordland and the far south today bringing rain, heavy rain to especially in the west (Fiordland for e.g.).
Cold air moves in bringing snow to 500m overnight for Southland, 700m overnight for Otago.
Snow is looking like it may be an issue for higher altitudes with heavy falls, Canterbury sees this problem in the high country on Friday.
For watches and warnings issued by Metservice in regards to rain, snow and wind please see this page here.
ANOTHER NICE DAY FOR THE NORTH ISLAND
High pressure is still clinging on for the North Island today bringing settled conditions, warm temperatures to especially in the east. In fact Canterbury northwards in the east is pretty good, there will be some high cloud though.
HEAVY RAIN FOR THE NORTH ISLAND ON SATURDAY
Our front mentioned above slowly moves northwards, the top of the South Island (Nelson / Marlborough) sees heavy rain for a time overnight Friday into Saturday.
Saturday itself the front moves over the North Island and heavy rain is looking reasonably likely in the west later in the day as it moves through.
