A west to southwesterly airflow lies over the country today bringing a few showers in the west, sunny weather in the east.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Showers, thinning out in the afternoon a little but a few may continue for much of the day in some areas. Sunny spells especially after midday. Bay Of Plenty will stay dry all day with a higher likelihood of sunnier conditions. Breezy southwesterlies.
Highs: 15 – 18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy areas and occasional showers, drying up in the evening. South of about Palmerston North staying mainly dry. West to northwesterly winds, gusty for coastal Taranaki.
Highs: 10 – 16

Eastern North Island

Sunny with westerlies tending east to northeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 18 – 21

Wellington

Mostly sunny with northerly winds.
Highs: 17 – 18

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny for Marlborough, westerlies tend east to northeast in the afternoon. Nelson has southwesterlies all day, a bit breezy but starting to back off after midday.
Highs: 19 – 21

Canterbury

Mostly sunny and warm with a touch of high cloud, northwesterlies tend easterly in the afternoon across the plains. Late afternoon or evening expect some mid level cloud for a time.
Highs: 18 – 20

West Coast

Showers, easing in the afternoon and a few sunny spells may break through, in the evening most showers should have cleared. West to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 13 – 15

Southland & Otago
Sun and some high cloud, mid level cloud possible from afternoon. A few morning showers clear Southland and coastal Otago. Westerly winds, strong about the coast but easing, especially later.
Highs: 13 – 20
