Weak high pressure lies over the country today, within this high pressure a few heat lows form over both Islands indicating summer is coming.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather, chance of an isolated shower hanging about eastern Bay Of Plenty. Winds from the southwest, afternoon sea breezes for eastern areas.
Highs: 19 – 21
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning cloud, risk of a shower. Sunny areas increase from afternoon. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 16 – 18
Eastern North Island
Partly cloudy, one or two showers possible. Light winds tend east to northeast around midday, dying out in the evening.
Highs: 19 – 22
Wellington
Cloud with a few light showers, breaking to sun in the afternoon. Northerlies.
Highs: 17 – 18
Marlborough & Nelson
Nelson is mostly sunny with northerlies. Early cloud clears Marlborough then mostly sunny with light winds, cloud overnight brings drizzle or showers (more so southern Marlborough) as winds tend southeast.
High: 19 – 22
Canterbury
Mostly cloudy, North Canterbury may have sun then clouding up from afternoon. From afternoon a few light showers or drizzle patches start to move in, becoming more widespread in the evening. Light winds tend south to southeast before midday.
High: 14 – 21
West Coast Mostly cloudy with a few showers, clearing in the afternoon with a few sunny spells breaking through. Fiordland is mostly sunny after morning cloud clears. West to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 16 – 19
Southland & Otago
Cloudy areas for Southland and coastal Otago with a few showers, mainly morning for Southland, later in the day for coastal Otago. Central Otago has a mix of sun and cloud. South to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 13 – 17
