A low pressure system to the east of New Zealand pushes in a southwesterly airflow over the country today, rain or showers for most regions, conditions ease / clear up in the south from this afternoon then really clearing up overnight for most as a ridge of high pressure moves in.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Cloudy areas and occasional showers, showers may be heavy in the west with a chance of thunderstorms then easing from this afternoon. Drying out in the evening for Waikato and Bay Of Plenty. Northwesterlies change to the west around midday.
Highs: 16-18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Showers, possibly heavy with thunderstorms then easing from afternoon. Northwesterlies change to the west this morning.
Highs: 11-16

Eastern North Island

Early scattered rain clears Hawkes Bay and Gisborne then mostly sunny and warm. Southwesterlies develop late afternoon about Wairarapa bringing a few showers.
Highs: 15-19

Wellington

Mostly cloudy, a few spits or showers, rain moves in from mid afternoon as northwesterlies change to the south.
High: 14-15

Marlborough & Nelson

Morning sunny areas, perhaps a few spits of rain about Nelson and the Marlborough Sounds. In the afternoon showers move in as winds change to the south, perhaps some rain for a time in the evening.
Highs: 12-15

Canterbury

Rain develops in the morning as southwesterlies freshen, easing back to showers in the afternoon then clearing evening. Snow above 800m. Skies clear up overnight with frosts developing especially inland.
Highs: 10-12

West Coast

Rain clears Fiordland in the morning then afternoon sun breaks through, further north rain clears from the south in the afternoon however northern Buller sees showers hang around overnight. Southeasterlies.
Highs: 10-14


Southland & Otago
Morning rain or showers clear then afternoon sun breaks through, a shower or two may remain about some coastal parts then clearing in the evening. Southwesterlies die out in the evening.
Highs: 10-12
