An active area of showers moves over the North Island today with heavy falls and possible thunderstorms. A few showers for the South Island too.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Rain, heavy falls and possible thunderstorms then easing during the afternoon to showers as light northerlies change southwest. Humid conditions ease later in the day. Conditions dry out in the evening.
Highs: 22-24

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy, a few showers then afternoon rain, clearing at night. Thunderstorms possible too especially about Taranaki in the afternoon with heavy falls. Northwesterly winds, changing west to southwest around midday.
Highs: 18-22

Eastern North Island

A dry morning with thickening high cloud, some rain from afternoon then clearing overnight. Light winds tend northeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 23-26

Wellington

Morning mid level cloud breaks but expect plenty of high cloud, high cloud thins out later in the day. There may be an early clearing shower for Upper Hutt. Breezy northwesterlies.
High: 19-21

Marlborough & Nelson

High cloud, starting to thin out from afternoon with some sun possibly breaking through. Morning southwesterlies for Nelson, northwesterly winds otherwise.
Highs: 21-24

Canterbury

High cloud, mid level cloud thickens up in the afternoon especially south of Banks Peninsula as winds tend to the east. Showers in the afternoon for South Canterbury clearing in the evening.
Highs: 19-23

West Coast

Cloudy areas and occasional showers, heavy rain for Fiordland overnight. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-19

Southland & Otago
Partly cloudy, chance of a spit otherwise mainly dry. West to northwesterly winds. Coastal Otago has cloud thicken in the morning, southwesterlies tend east to northeast in the afternoon bringing a chance of showers.
Highs: 16-21
