Thursday’s national forecast – SW eases

A southwest airflow finally eases from today, chain showers may still be heavy for some eastern areas but these will gradually ease during today.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty Sunny with any morning cloud clearing, Northland may have some cloud in the west with a shower or two during the day. South to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 12 – 15


Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Early showers clear Taranaki but still trickling in to parts of Manawatu for much of the day. Snow flurries to 400m in the morning but gradually lifting. South to southwesterly winds die out later on.
Highs: 3 – 12


Eastern North Island
Showers, possibly heavy first thing with small hail, snow flurries to 300m then lifting. Showers ease from afternoon. Napier being a big more sheltered may stay fairly dry but still the chance of a shower. Cold southwesterlies, strong about the coast.
Highs: 8 – 12


Wellington
Occasional showers, gradually easing, clearing at night. Cold southerlies ease later in the day. Snow flurries to 300m in the morning then lifting.
Highs: 8 – 9


Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny, easing southwesterlies.
Highs: 10 – 12


Canterbury

Coastal showers, heavy on Banks Peninsula and about the Kaikoura coast with snow to 300m, easing in the morning, clearing afternoon. Dry elsewhere with cloud gradually breaking to a few sunny areas from afternoon. Southwesterlies, strong about the coast at first, easing during the day.
Highs: 10 – 12


West Coast
Sunny with light winds. Southern Fiordland has the odd shower, spreading a little further northwards later in the day.
Highs: 11 – 12


Southland & Otago
Morning showers clear, a few sunny spells break through from afternoon especially for Otago. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 10 – 12
