A couple of fronts pass over the South Island today from the Tasman bringing rain or showers to most regions, showers for the North Island also, precipitation is more persistent in the west.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Partly cloudy with occasional showers, Bay Of Plenty has a mainly dry day. Fresh west to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 14 – 16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy with a shower or two, showers becoming more widespread around midday or perhaps turning to rain for some. Westerlies freshen.
Highs: 7 – 15

Eastern North Island

Morning sun, a few showers develop south of Napier in the afternoon then pushing further north in the evening as westerlies change fresh southwest.
Highs: 14 – 16

Wellington

Partly cloudy, a spit or two possible from afternoon as northwesterlies change southerly.
Highs: 13 – 14

Marlborough & Nelson

A mix of sun and cloud for Marlborough, Nelson is a bit cloudier with a few showers spilling over from the west, Tasman sees rain. West to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 13 – 15

Canterbury

Mostly cloudy, a few brief showers push northwards in the afternoon with southwesterlies, clearing evening.
Highs: 11 – 14

West Coast

Rain, easing to showers in the afternoon, rain pushes north along the coast again later in the evening or overnight. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 11 – 14

Southland & Otago
Rain, easing in the afternoon then picking up again in the evening for Southland. Dunedin has the odd shower then late evening rain. West to northwesterly winds, fresh southwesterlies for coastal Otago in the morning.
Highs: 9 – 12
