Thursday’s national forecast – Series of fronts move northwards

A series of cold fronts move northwards over New Zealand today in a southwesterly airflow. Western regions and the far south sees showers, a few showers push up the eastern South Island this evening.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Partly cloudy, occasional showers move into western regions, one or two may skip across into Tauranga in the afternoon. Breezy west to southwesterly winds, fresh for coastal areas.
Highs: 16-19

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Partly cloudy with a few showers, west to northwesterly winds gusty in the afternoon especially about the coast.
Highs: 12-17

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny, a few clouds about. Westerly winds change southwest overnight bringing in some cloud and a few showers.
Highs: 19-21

Wellington

A mix of sun and cloud with northwesterly winds, overnight expect a fresh to strong southerly change.
Highs: 17-18

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny with west to northwesterly winds, later in the evening a southerly change for Marlborough brings some cloud.
Highs: 19-21

Canterbury

Mostly sunny, a touch of high cloud. Gusty southwesterlies strong about the coast develop in the evening bringing thickening cloud and a few showers. South and perhaps Mid Canterbury stay dry.
Highs: 17-19

West Coast

Mostly cloudy with a few showers, some rain about Fiordland in the afternoon. Showers clearing overnight as westerlies change to the south.
Highs: 11-17

Southland & Otago
Partly cloudy, showers develop around midday for Southland then late afternoon for Otago as northwesterlies change gusty southwest, showers mostly clearing overnight. A few brief snow flurries possible to 400m before clearing.
Highs: 12-18
