A northerly airflow increases over New Zealand today ahead of a front moving in from the Tasman, this brings heavy rain to the West Coast from afternoon.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of sun and cloud, cloud thickens for eastern Northland from afternoon bringing in the odd light shower. A few light showers may spread elsewhere later in the day as north to northeasterly winds freshen.
Highs: 20-23
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny areas and increasing cloud, chance of a shower later in the day. Rain overnight. Northerly winds.
Highs: 18-23
Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny, some developing high cloud. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 23-25
Wellington
Sunny areas and thickening cloud, rain develops later in the evening or overnight. Northerly winds strengthen during the day, gales likely though Cook Strait at night.
Highs: 19-21
Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny areas and thickening cloud, a few spits or showers developing about the Sounds and Nelson in the afternoon, turning to rain in the evening then spreading over into Marlborough. North to northeasterly winds strengthen later in the day with gales overnight about Golden Bay and the Sounds.

Canterbury
Thickening high cloud, spots of rain possible from evening with persistent rain moving into the high country near the Main Divide. Northerly winds strengthen later in the day north of Rakaia.
Highs: 19-23
West Coast
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower possible, rain moves in south of Greymouth in the afternoon becoming heavy by evening then spreading northwards. Thunderstorms possible later in the day or overnight. Northeasterly winds strengthen later in the day.

Southland & Otago
Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, rain develops late evening. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 20-21
