Thursday’s national forecast – High starts to weaken

High pressure starts to weaken over the country today but it is still quite settled, a front moves into the far north later this afternoon or evening with rain.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning low cloud or fog then mostly sunny, some high cloud spreads down from the north. Northland starts to see some rain develop mid to late afternoon thanks to a front, rain reaches Auckland overnight. Late evening on wards rain may be heavy for Northland. Light winds tend northeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 13 – 16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning low cloud or fog then mostly sunny, cloud may continue to catch Taranaki during the day with the odd shower from afternoon. Light winds tend north to northeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 10 – 14

Eastern North Island

Sunny, cloud north of Mahia Peninsula breaks away in the afternoon with southwesterlies dying away.
Highs: 13 – 14

Wellington

Some morning cloud then mostly sunny, north to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 13 – 14

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny, cloud thickens later in the day for Tasman and Nelson, light showers possible later especially Tasman. Light winds tend north to northeast by midday.
Highs: 12 – 15

Canterbury

Mostly sunny, a few mist or fog patches morning and night. A little cloud about the coast, mainly Banks Peninsula. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 5 – 13

West Coast

Mostly sunny, there may be some cloud along the coastal fringe, especially Fiordland later in the day then rain overnight. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 12 – 14

Southland & Otago
High cloud and sun, there may be mist or fog morning and night for some inland spots. Light north to northeasterlies.
Highs: 8 – 11
