Thursday’s national forecast – High starts to nudge in

A high starts to make inroads over the South Island today with southerly quarter winds easing, southeasterlies further north.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny, some cloud for Coromandel, Great Barrier Island and eastern Northland brings a few showers, perhaps some rain pushing through for a time. Southeasterly winds, gusty in the east.
Highs: 12-15

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly sunny, cloud closer to the eastern ranges, the odd snow flurry for the Central Plateau at times passing over from the east. Southeasterly winds, gusty for Taranaki.
Highs: 5-12

Eastern North Island

Showers with cold southerly winds, snow to 400m for the ranges of Wairarapa, 600m for the ranges of Gisborne.
Highs: 8-11

Wellington

Showers with cold southerly winds, strong through Cook Strait. Snow flurries to 400m.
High: 8-9

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny with south to southeasterly winds, gusty about the outer Sounds, winds light and variable in the afternoon for Nelson.
Highs: 8-12

Canterbury

Mostly cloudy, a few light showers push northwards this morning, starting to clear from the south afternoon on wards. In the evening most showers should clear away. A few light snow flurries in the foothills as showers move through. Southwesterlies.
Highs: 4-9

West Coast

Sunny with light winds, a frosty start inland away from the coast. Coastal Buller may have some cloud and a shower or two.
Highs: 9-13

Southland & Otago
Morning cloud clears to afternoon sun, morning light showers for eastern Otago clear. Light winds.
Highs: 6-9
