Thursday’s national forecast – High moves in

High pressure moves in over the country today, most places are going to be settled but not necessarily cloud free. There a few showers about some eastern coastal areas also and in the far north from this afternoon.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of sun and cloud with the odd shower in the west, drying up in the afternoon. Cloud thickens from the north for Northland in the afternoon with the odd shower moving in, turning to rain overnight (far north). Southwesterlies tend northeast in the evening, overnight a few light showers move into Bay Of Plenty.
Highs: 15 – 17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Partly cloudy, winds are light then tending southeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 9 – 15

Eastern North Island

Wairarapa has cloud and the chance of a shower, sunnier further north but cloud does thicken with a shower or two moving in during the afternoon as southwesterlies tend more to the south.
Highs: 12 – 15

Wellington

A mix of sun and cloud, southerly winds.
High: 11 – 12

Marlborough & Nelson

Mainly sunny, a few clouds from afternoon. Light winds.
Highs: 9 – 13

Canterbury

Sunny, some cloud for Mid and North Canterbury, a few showers about the coast (mainly Banks Peninsula). Southwesterlies die out in the evening.
Highs: 6 – 11

West Coast

Sunny, a few clouds for North Westland / Buller. Later in the evening cloud thickens for all. Light winds.
Highs: 10 – 13

Southland & Otago
Morning cloud clears Southland then sunny, sunny and cold all day for Central Otago. Coastal Otago has cloud and a few showers, clearing in the afternoon and there may be some sun before dusk. Southwesterlies tend east to northeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 3 – 10
