A northeasterly airflow continues to lie over the country today, wet for much of the North Island with areas of heavy rain, perhaps some thunder. The South Island sees calmer weather but there is still rain in the north and some drizzle down the east coast. The West Coast and far south are the places to be.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Rain, chance of a thundery fall at times from midday for Bay Of Plenty, Coromandel, northern Auckland and Northland. Rain for Coromandel and western Bay Of Plenty is particularly heavy during the day. Breezy easterly winds.
Highs: 14 – 16
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy with occasional spits or showers, plenty of dry areas too. The Central North Island and Taranaki may see rain at times stream in from the northeast. Easterly winds.
Highs: 12 – 16
Eastern North Island
Rain, heavy falls possible with fresh east to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 14 – 16
Wellington
Cloudy with occasional showers, easterly winds.
Highs: 14 – 15
Marlborough & Nelson
Rain develops in the morning, easing to showers by evening. Southeasterly winds.
Highs: 13 – 16
Canterbury
Mostly cloudy, a drizzle patch or two possible especially near the coast. The Kaikoura area may see some rain from afternoon. The Mackenzie Country could be mainly sunny with a touch of high cloud, mist or fog morning and night with cold temperatures. Northeasterly winds, fresh about the coast after midday.
Highs: 7 – 14
West Coast
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, north of Greymouth expect some mid level cloud, northern parts of Buller have showers. Light southeasterlies.
Highs: 14 – 17
Southland & Otago
Low cloud or fog in the morning breaks away, mostly sunny otherwise with a touch of high cloud. Cloud thickens later in the day. Light winds, northeasterlies for coastal Otago.
Highs: 6 – 14
