A cold front that brought heavy rain to the West Coast yesterday reaches the North Island today however in a more weakened state. Conditions remain mainly dry in the east apart from the far south, southerlies move into Canterbury this afternoon but staying dry. Another cold front moves onto the lower South Island this evening.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Dry at first then rain develops during the morning pushing in from the west as a front moves over. Rain clearing from afternoon as northerlies change northwest, starting in the west, not becoming dry about Bay Of Plenty till evening.
Highs: 20-22
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Rain or showers clearing early afternoon then sunny areas increase, a few showers may move back in later in the evening. Breezy northwesterlies.
Highs: 17-21
Eastern North Island
High cloud, a few spits of rain possible for Wairarapa in the morning, further north in the afternoon. Northerlies.
Highs: 22-27
Wellington
Rain clears around midday then becoming mostly sunny, strong to gale northerlies ease in the evening.
Highs: 18-20
Marlborough & Nelson
Morning rain, heavy about Nelson and the Sounds then becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon. Strong to gale northerlies start to ease from afternoon.
Highs: 21-23
Canterbury
Morning high cloud clears to sunny weather, heavy rain in the high country eases and clears. Strong to gale northerlies, winds change southerly in the afternoon then swing around to the northeast in the evening.
Highs: 20-25
West Coast
Heavy rain eases to showers in the morning as northerlies change westerly, sunny spells may break through from afternoon otherwise staying mostly cloudy. Rain moves back into Fiordland from afternoon as winds tend northwesterly there.

Southland & Otago
Morning rain then expect a few showers and sunny areas from midday as southwesterlies tend northwest and freshen. Northeasterlies develop about coastal Otago late afternoon.
