An anticyclone is in control today with a gentel westerly airflow over the South Island. Expect cloudy skies for most in the west with rain on the West Coast of the South Island. Dry on the west coast of the North Island although there could be a drizzle patch or two about, mainly morning. Eastern areas of both islands are expected to be mainly warm and dry.

Auckland & Northland
Cloudy spells with west to southwest winds, could be a morning drizzle patch about Auckland.
High: 14

Bay Of Plenty
Sunny spells and some cloud with southwest breezes.
Highs: 16

Central North Island & Waikato
Cloudy spells with west to southwest breezes. Could be a drizzle patch, mainly morning.
Highs: 12-14

Eastern North Island
Sunny with light winds. West to northwest breezes about Wairarapa.
Highs: 16-17

Western North Island
Mainly cloudy skies with the odd drizzle patch at times, westerly breezes.
Highs: 13-14

Wellington
Cloudy spells and the odd sunny break at times, northerly breezes.
High: 14

Nelson
Sunny with some cloud, westerly breezes.
Highs: 14-15

Marlborough
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, northwest breezes develop around midday for Marlborough. Mild temperatures.
High: 17

Canterbury
High cloud with light winds, high cloud decreases mid afternoon becoming mostly sunny. Late evening some cloud develops and there could be a drizzle patch overnight with light southerlies, mainly near the coast.
High: 16-17

West Coast
Periods of rain, easing off at times with drizzle patches. Northwest breezes.
High: 13

Coastal Otago
A few early spots of rain clears then sunny spells increase with light winds. Around midday winds change southwest with some cloud, cloud increases in the evening and there may be an overnight drizzle patch.
High: 13

Central Otago
Morning rain clears by midday, sunny spells develop in the afternoon with light northwesterlies.
Highs: 10-11

Southland
Morning high cloud with northwesterlies, winds change west to southwest around midday bringing a few showers which clear in the evening. Winds become light at night.
Highs: 12-13
