A front approaches the lower South Island today with a preceding northwesterly airflow, so sunny warm weather can be expected out east with cloudy showery conditions in the west. For the North Island most places are mainly dry with high pressure about although the odd shower may affect parts of the upper North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato, CNI & BOP
Sunny areas and some cloud, cloud building a little towards late afternoon and evening with the chance of a shower then clearing at night. Winds from the northwest. About Northland however expect east to northeast breezes.
Highs: 18-21

Eastern North Island
Sunny with light winds, northwesterlies pick up about Wairarapa in the afternoon.
Highs: 20-22

Western North Island
Mostly sunny with some cloud at times, cloud building towards evening with the chance of a light shower. Northwest breezes.
Highs: 19-20

Nelson
Sunny with north to northwest breezes picking up a little in the afternoon, some late cloud.
Highs: 10-21

Marlborough & Wellington
Sunny with northwesterly winds picking up in the afternoon, northwesterlies becoming brisk about the Capital. Some late high cloud for Marlborough.
Highs: 19-23

Canterbury
Sunny and warm with some high cloud developing from afternoon, light northeasterlies tend northwest after midday.
High: 23-24

West Coast
Cloudy skies with northerly breezes, the odd shower at times then rain overnight where there may be a few heavy falls.
Highs: 17-18

Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny with thickening high cloud, northwest breezes about inland areas and Southland. Some rain develops about Southland and western parts of Central Otago late afternoon. Later in the evening winds change southwest with widespread showers which clear overnight.
Highs: 17-22
