A front slowly clears the North Island today moving off to the northeast, for most expect showers to clear in the afternoon with sunny areas slowly increasing. Parts of East Cape and Northland may not see showers clear till dark. In the South Island expect a westerly airflow with showery conditions out west, sunny in the east with mostly dry weather. About coastal Otago through to Mid Canterbury isolated early afternoon showers will get going a few of which could be heavy and thundery then clearing in the evening.

Upper North Island

Showers develop early this morning with a cool southwest change, showers clearing in the afternoon with sunny areas developing. About Northland and East Cape showers may hang around till later in the evening then clearing at night.
HIGHS: 22-23, mid 20’s about Gisborne

Lower North Island

Showers clear this morning in the west and about Wellington with sunny areas developing, expect west to northwest breezes. Showers clear in the afternoon about the Central North Island then sunny areas appearing there. On the east coast, a few showers move through Wairarapa in the morning then becoming sunny in the afternoon. A few showers may pass through Hawkes Bay in the morning also however conditions could remain mostly dry, sunny areas developing there later in the afternoon with light winds.
HIGHS: 18-20 in the west, 23-34 in the east

Upper South Island

Cloudy on the West Coast with showers, sunny areas in Nelson with westerly breezes. On the east coast expect mostly sunny weather with light winds, some areas may receive southwesterlies at first however they will die away. About Mid and South Canterbury a few isolated showers get going early afternoon and there is the chance one or two may become heavy and thundery before clearing by late afternoon.
HIGHS: 17-18 on the West Coast. 21 for Nelson, 20-23 in Canterbury and Marlborough

Lower South Island

Showers on the West Coast with westerlies. early showers clear elsewhere with cool west to southwest breezes however showers remain about Southland. About North Otago a few showers get going late morning or early afternoon and may become heavy and thundery before clearing late afternoon.
