An anticyclone covers New Zealand today bringing mainly settled weather, meanwhile a large low in the Tasman Sea flings a front over the lower South Island overnight.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny, light winds tend southwesterly. An afternoon sea breeze develops for eastern Northland and Bay Of Plenty.
Highs: 24-30

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly sunny, light winds tend westerly in the afternoon.
Highs: 22-27

Eastern North Island
Areas of cloud and occasional sun, risk of a shower about Gisborne / East Cape. Light winds tend easterly in the afternoon.
Highs: 23-27

Wellington
Morning cloud then mostly sunny, light southeasterly winds.
High: 23

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny, cloud about Marlborough breaks away in the afternoon. Southeasterlies tend easterly by midday for Marlborough, light winds tend northerly in the afternoon for Nelson.
Highs: 23-26

Canterbury
Morning cloud then mostly sunny, perhaps a touch of high cloud at times. Easterlies freshen.
Highs: 22-24

West Coast
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, rain moves into South Westland in the evening becoming heavy overnight.
Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 20-27

Southland & Otago
Any early cloud breaks to sunny areas and some high cloud, east to northeasterly winds. Coastal Otago may see some cloud linger during the day.
Highs: 21-27
