A westerly quarter airflow lies over New Zealand today, a weakening front within this flow pushes off the upper South Island this morning then onto the western North Island from afternoon.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of sun and cloud, the odd shower about western Waikato gradually spreads into the rest of Waikato during the afternoon. There may be a late evening shower about Auckland and Bay Of Plenty as westerlies tend southwest.
Highs: 26-28
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning cloud, the odd shower or drizzle patch then sunny areas increase from afternoon. Breezy northwesterly winds, tending a little more westerly after midday.
Highs: 20-26
Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny, some high cloud, light winds tend northwest.
Highs: 27-30
Wellington
Morning spits or showers then sunny areas increase from afternoon. Northwest winds gradually increase.
High: 22
Marlborough & Nelson
Morning high cloud clears away then mainly sunny, light winds tend to the west or northwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 25-27
Canterbury
Morning high cloud (perhaps a spot of rain) then mostly sunny in the afternoon, northeasterlies in the morning then northwest winds pick up from afternoon.
Highs: 26-30
West Coast
Morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather, any early showers clear. Fiordland stays cloudy with the odd shower, more persistent from afternoon then rain moves in overnight before pushing northwards. Morning southwesterlies then tending west to northwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 17-22
Southland & Otago
Cloudy areas and occasional sun about Southland, morning cloud about Otago breaks to mostly sunny weather. Rain develops later in the evening for Southland then pushing into Otago overnight. Northwesterly winds strengthen then change southwest overnight.
