Mostly sunny across the North Island today with light winds for the upper half of the island tending southeasterly in the far north, there will also be some cloud during the day in Northland. West to northwest winds across the lower North Island strong about Cook Strait and Wairarapa then easing in the evening, some cloud during the day from Taranaki through to Wellington and areas of high cloud elsewhere about the lower North Island.

Rain on the West Coast of the South Island eases to showers by midday tomorrow with southwesterly winds, showers clear in the evening with cloudy skies breaking up. Mostly sunny in Nelson with westerly winds, some cloud for a time early afternoon then clearing. High cloud in Marlborough with northwesterly winds, sunny areas developing in the afternoon with winds easing. Some cloud develops for Canterbury as a southerly breeze moves in around mid morning, sunnier areas develop in the afternoon with southerlies dying out by evening.

Showers in Southland and inland Otago with westerlies tending southwest in the morning, a few brief showers may get into coastal Otago during the morning with that southwest change however they will clear with sunny areas then increasing. Showers clear in all areas by evening and southwesterlies die out.

Temperatures in the low 20’s in Northland and on the east coast of the North Island today, high teens elsewhere however 16 to 17 degrees from Taranaki through to Wellington and about the Central North Island. High’s of 16 to 17 in Nelson and Canterbury today, 19 perhaps 20 in Marlborough. Mid teens on the West Coast and 12 to 14 in Southland and Otago respectively.
