A northwesterly airflow lies over the country today, a front moves onto the western South Island from afternoon then the western North Island overnight.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny spells, the odd shower. The Bay Of Plenty is mainly dry. Rain moves into Northland overnight. Westerlies tend northwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 14-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 9-15

Eastern North Island
Sunny with some high cloud from afternoon, north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-16

Wellington
Sunny areas and increasing cloud, breezy northwesterly winds.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, light winds from the westerly quarter.
Highs: 12-14

Canterbury
Sunny areas and some high cloud, northeasterly winds.
Highs: 10-12

West Coast
Cloudy with occasional showers, rain for South Westland, especially Fiordland where it may be heavy. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 9-11

Southland & Otago
Mostly cloudy for Southland. Otago has sunny areas and high cloud. A few spots of rain possible about western central Otago and Southland in the evening. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 7-10
