A front pushes northwards over the South Island today reaching the lower North Island in the evening, winds from the northwest ahead of the front then changing cold southwest in behind.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny, a shower or two about western Northland / Auckland. Cloud thickens from afternoon for most with the risk of a shower as southwesterly winds tend westerly, late evening or overnight heavy showers.
Highs: 14-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
May be some morning sun then cloud and a few showers develop from afternoon, evening rain possibly heavy with thunderstorms. Freshening west to northwesterly winds, becoming strong about Taranaki.
Highs: 14-15

Eastern North Island
Sunny or becoming sunny early in the morning with southwesterlies dying away, some early rain possible about Gisborne then drying out. Northwesterlies develop in the afternoon. Evening high cloud with a few spots of rain possible about Wairarapa then further north overnight.
Highs: 15-17

Wellington
Some sun then cloud thickens with showers late afternoon / evening, freshening northwesterly winds.
High: 14

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny areas and some high cloud, northwesterlies pick up from afternoon. There may be a spell of rain late afternoon / early evening especially about Nelson.
Highs: 12-14

Canterbury
Sunny areas and some high cloud with northerlies tending northwest in the afternoon, overnight showers with a gusty southwest change.
Highs: 12-16

West Coast
Showers, heavy rain about South Westland pushes into North Westland during the morning then easing to showers again in the afternoon as northwesterlies change westerly. Showers may be heavy at times however with thunderstorms and small hail then easing evening and clearing at night as winds shift more to the south.
Highs: 9-11

Southland & Otago
Some morning scattered rain then showers mid to late afternoon, possibly heavy at times with small hail as northwesterlies change southwest. Showers ease overnight.
Highs: 8-11
