A west to northwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, moving around a large high situated in the Tasman Sea.

North Island
Mostly sunny for Northland, Auckland sees sunny spells and some cloud, chance of a shower early afternoon then clearing. Cloud about the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty breaks to some sun this afternoon, chance of a shower this morning mainly about Waikato. Winds from the west about the upper North Island, tending southwest this afternoon.

Cloudy areas about the lower western North Island (Taranaki through to Kapiti) bring the risk of a shower then sunny areas increase this afternoon as northwesterly winds tend westerly. Mostly sunny along the east coast with northwesterly winds.

Afternoon high’s in the mid twenties for many North Island regions today, perhaps late twenties or even early thirties for parts of Hawkes Bay / Gisborne.

South Island
Mostly cloudy for the West Coast with showers, dry spells at times from afternoon and perhaps even the chance of some brief sun now and then. Winds from the west or southwest. Sunny areas and some high cloud for Nelson and Marlborough with west to northwesterly winds. Mostly sunny for Canterbury, early afternoon southerlies push into South Canterbury reaching North Canterbury in the evening bringing some cloud. Otago sees areas of cloud and sun at times, perhaps a shower mid to late morning then clearing afternoon, winds from the west or southwest. Occasional showers for Southland with dry spells increasing from afternoon, gusty westerly winds.

Temperatures reaching into the mid to late twenties for Canterbury, Marlborough and Nelson today. Mid teens for Southland, late teens or early twenties for Otago and along the West Coast.
