An anticyclone spreads out over New Zealand today however just before it does a front races northwards over the South Island this morning. This front will weaken as it moves northwards, moving onto the lower North Island around midday.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly cloudy with the chance of a shower or two in the morning, cloud gradually breaking away from afternoon then mainly clear skies by evening. The Bay Of Plenty has a mainly sunny day. Breezy southwesterly winds die away later in the day.
Highs: 17-21

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Some morning cloud then breaking to mostly sunny weather in the afternoon as southeasterly winds freshen.
Highs: 17-21

Eastern North Island
A mostly sunny morning then southerlies pick up around midday bringing cloudy areas, breaking away in the evening with winds easing.
Highs: 17-22

Wellington
High cloud then cloudy areas move in late morning as southerly winds freshen, sun breaking through again from mid afternoon.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson
Some morning high cloud then mostly sunny, afternoon easterlies for Marlborough. Afternoon northerlies for Nelson.
Highs: 18-20

Canterbury
A few morning showers then sunny spells increase from afternoon. Southwesterly winds tend northeast in the evening.
Highs: 13-15

West Coast
A few light morning showers clear, sunny spells develop in the afternoon. Southwesterly winds die out by evening. A warm afternoon about inland Buller.
Highs: 14-22

Southland & Otago
Early showers clear then becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon, light south to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-21
