The low pressure system that has been affecting New Zealand since Monday finally moves away to the east today and a ridge of high pressure pushes in.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Cloudy areas and occasional sun, there may be a light shower or two about otherwise mainly dry. The Bay Of Plenty has a dry day with sunny areas more frequent. West to southwesterly breezes.
Highs: 16-17
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy with a shower or two, clearing by evening. Taranaki however has a mix of sun and cloud. West to southwesterly winds, gusty about coastal Taranaki.
Highs: 12-15
Eastern North Island
Morning rain eases to the odd shower about the Wairarapa, clearing later in the day, winds cool from the southwest. For Hawkes Bay and Gisborne expect mostly sunny weather with westerly winds.
Highs: 14-18
Wellington
Showers, clearing in the afternoon then cloud starts to break away in the evening. Fresh southerly winds ease later in the day.
High: 13-14
Marlborough & Nelson
Chance of an early shower then cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather after midday for Marlborough, Nelson sees sunny weather develop in the morning. Light southwesterlies die out in the afternoon.
Highs: 15-16
Canterbury
Rain (mainly Banks Peninsula northwards) clears away in the morning then sunny areas increase. Southwesterlies ease then die out by evening.
Highs: 12-13
West Coast
Sunny weather, some high cloud develops about South Westland from late afternoon. Rain moves into Fiordland later in the evening.
Highs: 12-14
Southland & Otago
Morning cloud clears coastal Otago, mostly sunny otherwise with some high cloud developing later in the day, a few spots of rain move through overnight for Southland. Light winds for most, morning southwesterlies for coastal Otago die away.
Highs: 9-12
