Today sees an occluded frontal zone lying over the upper North Island while an easterly quarter airflow flows over the rest of the country.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Showers in the area, many dry spells also and perhaps some sun. Rain offshore may drift into the Auckland region during the afternoon then move further south into the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty. Light northwesterly winds Auckland northwards, easterlies further south. Warmest temperatures about Northland.
Highs: 13-18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny areas and increasing cloud about Manawatu then showers develop in the afternoon. Taranaki and the Central North Island sees skies mostly cloudy skies and a few showers. Easterly winds.
Highs: 9-13

Eastern North Island
Mainly cloudy about Gisborne (chance of a light shower or two), Hawkes Bay sees cloudy areas which may break to some sun at times then the Wairarapa has mainly sunny conditions. Cloud thickening for all during the afternoon then later in the evening / overnight areas of rain move in (southern Wairarapa may remain dry).

Wellington
Cloudy areas with a shower or two possible this morning, southeasterly winds.
Highs: 10-11

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny at first after a frosty start then cloud thickens up from late morning about Marlborough. Nelson sees sunnier skies with some high cloud gradually creeping in, cloud thickens and lowers in the evening. East to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 10-12

Canterbury
Sunny areas inland and cloudier skies right on the coastal fringes which may bring a light shower or two, cloud thickens up in the evening for all. East to northeasterly winds.
High: 6-8

West Coast
Mainly sunny with a touch of high cloud from afternoon, east to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 10-13

Southland & Otago
Mainly sunny about Southland and inland Otago with east to northeasterly breezes after a frosty start. Coastal Otago sees cloudier skies with the chance of a drizzle patch or two.
Highs: 6-8
