A front slowly moves northwards over the North Island today, this brings some heavy rain in the west especially about Taranaki. The South Island is covered by a northwesterly airflow with showers in the west and dry out east.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny areas and some cloud, the odd shower from late afternoon then persistent rain moves in by evening about the Waikato / Bay Of Plenty then further north by midnight. Breezy northwesterlies.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Rain, easing mid to late afternoon to showers south of Taranaki. Winds breezy from the northwest. About Taranaki rain will be heavy during the day, finally easing in the evening, winds gusty from the northwest. The Central North Island sees the odd shower then heavy rain makes it’s way in by evening.

Eastern North Island
Thick high cloud, a few spells of rain spreading from the west into the Wairarapa in the morning then gradually moving northwards reaching Gisborne by evening. Sun may break through later in the day about the Wairarapa. Winds breezy from the northwest.
Cloudy with the odd shower, clearing in the evening. Winds strong from the northwest possibly gusting to gale at times then easing later in the day.

Marlborough & Nelson
Morning cloud with a few spots of rain possible (rain more likely for Nelson), sunny areas increase in the afternoon. Strong northwesterly winds gradually ease.
Sunny skies with northwesterly winds, picking up a little for a time mid to late afternoon.
Morning rain eases, perhaps a few sunny areas for the afternoon. In the evening cloud and showers move in again, northwesterly winds.

Southland & Otago
Sunny areas and some increasing cloud in the morning, a few brief spells of rain early afternoon then clearing as moderate northwesterlies change westerly. Cloud then breaks away after rain clears. Later in the evening further showers or rain moves in from the west.
