A front moves onto the lower South Island around midday then pushes northwards to reach the lower North Island around midnight. Preceding the front is warmer west to northwesterly winds.

Auckland & Northland
Sunny spells and periods of cloud with westerly breezes.
Highs: 20-22

Bay Of Plenty

A mix of sun and cloud, westerly breezes.
High: 22

Waikato & Central North Island

Sunny spells and periods of cloud, westerly winds pick up a little in the
afternoon. Overnight cloud thickens.
Highs: 19-20

Eastern North Island

Sunny areas and some high cloud increasing from afternoon, northwesterly
winds breezy about the Wairarapa. Overnight a southwesterly change moves into
the Wairarapa with showers.
Highs: 22-24

Western North Island

A mix of sun and cloud, cloud increases later in the evening. Westerlies
picking up during the day. Rain develops overnight Wanganui southwards.
High: 19

Wellington

Periods of cloud with gusty northwesterlies, a late / overnight southerly
change brings a few showers.
High: 19

Nelson

Sunny areas and increasing cloud with breezy westerlies, cloud thickens
evening then some rain moves in overnight.
High: 21

Marlborough

Sunny areas and high cloud, thickening in the afternoon with breezy
northwesterlies. Overnight winds change southerly with some rain.
High: 26

Canterbury

Sunny areas and high cloud with northwesterly winds, a mid to late
afternoon southwest change brings cloud and showers.
Highs: 23-24

West Coast

Rain Greymouth southwards spreads north in the afternoon, chance of a heavy
fall. Rain easing by evening as northerlies swing round to the south.
High: 16

Coastal Otago

Morning cloud with some rain then easing showers in the afternoon with a
southwest change. Showers clear in the evening.
High: 17

Central Otago

Cloudy with the odd spit in the morning, northwesterly winds ease. A
southerly change in the afternoon brings some rain which clears evening, cloud
breaks away overnight.
Highs: 17-18

Southland

Morning rain eases to showers early afternoon then clears, cloud breaks in
the evening. Southerly winds.
High: 13
