A cold gusty southerly airflow lies over the country today. A few showers about mainly in the east, sunnier conditions out west.

Auckland & Northland
Any morning showers clear then sunny spells increase, fresh south to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-16

Bay Of Plenty

A few morning showers then clearing with sunny spells increasing in the afternoon, southerly winds fresh at times after midday.
High: 15

Waikato & Central North Island

Morning cloud with the chance of a remaining shower, becoming mostly sunny
in the afternoon. Southerly winds, fresh at times. About southern parts of the
Central North Island expect occasional showers which don’t clear till evening,
some snow to 800m mid afternoon lowering to 400m by evening before
clearing.

Eastern North Island

Periods of rain with southwesterlies freshening in the morning, some snow
to 800m late afternoon lowers to 400m overnight.
High: 11

Taranaki

Early cloud breaks to sunny spells which increase during the day,
southeasterly winds becoming strong in the afternoon then ease a little
overnight.
High: 12

Western North Island

Showers, clearing around midday then cloud slowly breaking. Breezy south to
southeast winds.
High: 12

Wellington

Cloudy with the odd shower, strong southerly winds with a risk of gales
especially midday onwards.
High: 9

Nelson

Some morning cloud with the chance of a shower, becoming mostly sunny in
the afternoon with southerly winds freshening then easing again later in the
evening.
Highs: 11-12

Marlborough

Chance of a morning showers otherwise dry, sunny spells increase from
midday. Brisk southerlies ease later in the day. About southern Marlborough
winds will be strong from the south for much of the day with mostly cloudy
skies, the odd brief shower at times. A few light snow flurries to 800m first
thing lower to low levels in the evening then clear. It must be stressed that no
or only a very small amount of snow may accumulate, precipitations amounts are
fairly low.

Canterbury

Occasional showers with cold southwesterlies, clearing evening. A few light
snow flurries to low levels. Areas of precipitation will be slightly more
persistent in North Canterbury with longer dry spells about Mid and South
Canterbury. Overall amounts of anything be it snow or showers will be fairly
small and not accumulate to much at all.
High: 7

West Coast

Sunny with breezy to brisk southeaterly winds, easing later in the
evening.
Highs: 11-12

Coastal Otago

A few showers with brisk southwesterlies, odd light snow flurry to low
levels also then clearing around midday. Cloud breaks towards evening.
High: 7

Central Otago

Any morning sleet / chance of some light snow to low levels then clearing
(any amounts will be very minor), sunny spells develop by midday then increase
with southwesterlies easing.
High: 7

Southland

A few morning showers with the chance of some light snow to low levels then
clearing, sunny spells develop in the afternoon with southwesterlies
easing.
High: 8
