A ridge brings a spell of calmer weather today however a northwesterly airflow quickly builds over the South Island from afternoon bringing rain in the west and gusty northwesterlies out east.

Auckland & Northland
Early showers clear then expect sunny spells with breezy southwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-18

Bay Of Plenty

A few early showers clear then becoming mostly sunny during the morning, southwesterly winds.
High: 17

Waikato & Central North Island

Becoming mostly sunny early in the morning, southwesterly winds.
Highs: 13-15

Eastern North Island

A few morning showers clear then becoming mostly sunny by midday with
southerly winds dying out. Northwesterlies pick up in the afternoon about the
Wairarapa, light winds elsewhere.
High: 16

Western North Island

Becoming mostly sunny in the morning with southerlies dying out, a few
clouds drift in from afternoon however as winds tend westerly (winds tend more
southwest about Taranaki. Cloud thickens evening.
Highs: 15-16

Wellington

Becoming sunny early in the morning with southerlies dying out, northerly
winds pick up from midday. Some evening cloud.
Highs: 13

Nelson

Sunny with light winds at first, afternoon westerlies.
High: 14

Marlborough

Becoming sunny early in the morning with light winds, west to northwest
winds freshen from afternoon.
Highs: 15-16

Canterbury

Becoming sunny early in the morning, light winds. Northwesterlies freshen
from afternoon however becoming gusty inland.
Highs: 14-16

West Coast

Cloudy with increasing northwesterly winds, showers about South Westland
spread north in the afternoon. Rain about South Westland from afternoon.
Highs: 11-13

Coastal Otago

Sunny with some high cloud, northwesterlies becoming gusty in the
afternoon.
Highs: 14-15

Central Otago

Gusty northwesterlies with high cloud, showers at times west of the South
Lakes area and dry further east.
High: 10

Southland

Brisk northwesterly winds, sunny spells and increasing cloud. The odd
shower from afternoon.
Highs: 13-14
