A broad area of low pressure affects much of the country today, expect patchy rain or drizzle for the upper half of the South Island. The North Island may see heavy downpours and thunderstorms for some this afternoon / evening.

Northland
Sunny spells with light winds, tending easterly or northeast. Mid afternoon isolated showers develop for some, chance one or two may be heavy with thunderstorms then clearing in the evening.
Highs: 23-24

Auckland

Chance of an early shower then expect sunny spells with light
northeasterlies. A few isolated showers spring up in the afternoon then clear in
the evening, a risk showers may be heavy with the low chance of some lightning
especially in the south.
High: 23

Bay Of Plenty

Chance of an early shower otherwise expect cloudy spells and a few sunny
areas at times. Low risk of a mid afternoon isolated shower.
High: 23

Waikato & Central North Island

Periods of cloud and sunny spells about, light easterlies. Chance of an
early shower then clearing. Mid afternoon a few isolated showers devleop again,
showers may be heavy with thunderstorms then clearing later in the
evening.
Highs: 20-24

Eastern North Island

Patchy rain or showers, southerly winds
Highs: 18-21

Western North Island

South of Wanganui, early showers clear then expect cloudy spells and a few
sunny areas. There may be a few further showers later in the evening. Further
north expect sunny spells with southeasterly winds, isoalted showers develop
during the afternoon possibly heavy with thunderstorms then clearing in the
evening.
Highs: 21-22

Wellington

Early rain eases to the odd shower, rain may pick up again at night for a
time. Cool southerlies.
High: 16

Nelson

A few early showers then expect cloudy areas and sunny spells with
southeasterly winds. There may be a brief shower at times during the remainder
of the day otherwise mainly dry.
High: 19

Marlborough

Cloudy with early rain easing to the odd shower, southeasterly winds.
High: 17

Canterbury

Cloudy with southeasterly winds, drizzle patches north of about Ashburton.
Early rain north of Cheviot eases to drizzle patches. South Canterbury remains
mainly dry.
Highs: 14-16

West Coast

Sunny areas and high cloud with southeasterly winds, chance of the odd
shower at times north of about Hokitika from thicker periods of cloud.
Highs: 18-20

Coastal Otago

Mostly cloudy skies, there could be a few afternoon sunny spells. Light
winds at first then afternoon easterlies.
High: 14

Central Otago

Sunny with areas of high cloud, light east to southeast breezes.
Highs: 19-20

Southland

Sunny with areas of high cloud, east to southeast breezes.
Highs: 16-17
