A cool southwesterly airflow lies over the country today as an anticyclone sits in the Tasman Sea, showers for the West Coast of the South Island and a showery change works it’s way north along the east coast. For the North Island expect sunny weather on the east coast, sunny spells out west with a morning shower or two.

Northland
Cloudy periods in the morning with westerly breezes, chance of a shower around midday then clearing with sunny spells increasing into the afternoon as winds tend more southwest.

Auckland

A few showers clear by late morning then expect sunny spells and some
cloud. Brisk southwesterly winds ease later in the evening.
High: 21

Central North Island, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Any early showers clear then expect sunny spells with brisk WSW winds
easing later in the evening. Skies about the Bay Of Plenty will be sunny after
any early showers clear.
Highs: 19-23

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with westerly breezes, easing in the evening.
Highs: 23-25

Western North Island

A few morning showers clear then expect sunny spells, brisk westerly winds.
About northern Taranaki skies will be mostly sunny with brisk WSW winds, there
could still be an early clearing shower.
High: 19

Wellington

Mostly sunny with brisk to strong northerly winds, a westerly change in the
evening may bring slightly cooler temperatures.
High: 19

Nelson

Mostly sunny with southwesterly winds, a little breezy in the afternoon
then easing later in the evening.
High: 21

Marlborough

Sunny with northwesterly winds, gusty at times from afternoon then easing
later in the evening.
Highs: 23-24

Canterbury

Sunny with northwesterly breezes, a southwest change late afternoon and
evening brings showers (mainly along the coast south of about Amberley).
Southwesterlies then die out later in the evening.
Highs: 21-23

West Coast

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, brisk west to southwest winds.
High: 15

Coastal Otago

Cloudy spells with strong WSW winds, gale force at times especially on the
coastline. The odd shower south of the Catlins spreads north after midday,
showers then clear in the evening.
Highs: 14-15

Central Otago

Scattered rain or showers, mostly clearing around midday and sunny spells
developing. West to southwest winds.
Highs: 14-16

Southland

Rain easing to occasional showers after midday, strong westerly breezes.
Winds may gust to gale force at times, especially on the coast.
High: 13
