Thursday’s Headlines (x3): Rain heaviest in the west today – North Island, Warm overnight lows, Heavy rain Nelson on Friday

Here’s what is making the weather headlines today….

RAIN HEAVIEST IN THE WEST – NORTH ISLAND

An occluded front lying over western parts of the North Island brings areas of heavy rain today. Northland, Taranaki and perhaps Palmerston north southwards in the west has the most persistent falls.

The rainfall accumulation map below shows this heavy rain for western parts of the North Island, the heavy rain for the West Coast would have come from yesterday.

WARM OVERNIGHT LOWS

It’s no secret overnight temperatures are quite warm at the moment, below is the minimum temperatures we can expect early this morning, Friday morning and Saturday morning.

The upper North Island is the warmest with lows in the mid to late teens.

HEAVY RAIN FOR NELSON ON FRIDAY

The top of the South Island should be on watch for heavy rain Friday, this thanks to an occluded front feeding in from the north. It’s the same front that is bringing some heavy rain to western parts of the North Island today.
