Here’s what is making the weather headlines today….
FOGGY THIS MORNING – NORTH ISLAND
Light winds and clear skies yesterday as dusk approached meant fog formed overnight for many North Island regions, especially just inland away from coastal parts.
Fieldays in the Waikato especially will be experiencing fog this morning, breaking up mid to later this morning.
Inland Southland / Otago and Buller experience fog this morning also but this is less extensive than further north as can be seen in the image below.
While there may be a few fog or mist patches again overnight tonight the risk is reduced for all of the country.
RAIN EVENING / OVERNIGHT FOR NORTHLAND MAY BE HEAVY
As a front sweeps in from the northwest this evening expect rain to develop in the far north, rain may be heavy this evening / overnight for a time but is not expected to cause any issues.
If any rain watches or warnings are issued from Metservice you will be able to see them here.
INSTABILITY IN THE NORTH FROM FRIDAY
The air in behind the front mentioned above is unstable for parts of the upper North Island from Friday. Friday itself may see any activity restricted to Northland then the risk extends into Auckland on Saturday.
Sunday and Monday may continue to see the odd isolated heavy shower with some thunder for the upper North Island, very isolated it must be said, not everyone will get these heavy showers if they occur.
Today and tomorrow’s thunderstorm outlook from Metservice can be viewed here.
