A strong northwesterly airflow lies over the South Island tonight, winds will be strongest about inland Canterbury and Marlborough. Expect heavy falls of rain on the West Coast. Strong northerly winds gusting to gale force develop about Wellington overnight too. The rest of the North Island stays mainly settled for now, the front that will have caused heavy rain and strong winds for the South Island moves over the North Island during tomorrow however does weaken a fair amount.

Mainly clear skies, ease to northeast winds ease later this evening. Light northerlies overnight.

Auckland & Northland

Mainly clear skies with some high cloud for a time, sea breezes ease this
evening. Winds tend northerly overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 15-16

Central North Island, Lake Taupo,
Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Westerly breezes tend more northwest overnight, mainly fine with areas of
high cloud. Northerlies about the Bay Of Plenty however, easing overnight and
tending northwest.
Tonight’s Lows: 11-16

Eastern North Island

Mainly clear with some high cloud, especially about Wairarapa. Sea breezes
ease this evening with winds tending northerly overnight, Wairarapa sees
northwesterlies from this evening however, becoming brisk overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 15-17

Western North Island

High cloud with westerly breezes tending northwest overnight. Taranaki sees
northwesterlies from evening and a few spots of rain towards dawn tomorrow, some
rain towards dawn for Kapiti also.
Tonight’s Lows: 14-16

Wellington

Mostly cloudy with strong northerlies gusting to gale force at times,
especially overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 16-17

Nelson & Kaiteriteri

Areas of cloud increase overnight, northerly winds become gusty overnight
also. A few spots of rain towards dawn tomorrow.

Marlborough

Plenty of high cloud with gusty northwesterly winds, strong overnight with
gusts to gale force possible. Gales are likely about the outer Sounds, spots of
rain move in towards dawn tomorrow also.

Canterbury

High cloud with strong north to northwesterly winds, gusting to gale force
at times especially inland. A few spots of rain possible at times, rain spreads
into the foothills overnight with the odd heavy fall possible.

West Coast

Rain, heavy with torrential falls for Fiordland and South Westland this
evening then moving north overnight. Thunderstorms may be about also. Strong
north to northeasterly winds.

Coastal Otago

Areas of rain this evening then clearing overnight as northeasterlies tend
more northerly. Winds may be gusty at times this evening then easing.
Tonight’s Lows: 13-14

Central Otago

Rain this evening clearing around midnight especially in the east as
northwesterly winds tend westerly. About the Southern Lakes area rain eases to
showers overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 9-10

Southland

Areas of rain this evening then clearing around midnight as winds tend more
northwesterly. Clear spells overnight.
Tonight’s Low: 10
