A low pressure sysem sits east of the North Island overnight. An easterly quarter airflow over the South Island brings cloudy skies and some drizzle in the east, the West Coast is clear apart from showers about Buller which clear later this evening. For the North Island expect showers at differing times for Wellington and the east coast. Heavy showers and thunderstorms clear in the west later this evening although the odd shower continues overnight for Auckland and Northland.

Cloudy areas and clear spells, low risk of a shower now and then otherwise mainly dry. West to southwest breezes.

Auckland & Northland

Cloudy periods with the odd shower at times, long dry periods too. West to southwest breezes.
Tonight’s Lows: 13-15

Central North Island, Lake Taupo, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Showers, some heavy with thunderstorms clearing later this evening. Light winds. Northwesterlies about the Bay Of Plenty ease.
Tonight’s Lows: 11-14

Eastern North Island

Showers about the ranges of Hawkes Bay and Gisborne, some heavy with possibly thunderstorms clearing later this evening. Light winds. Clear spells elsewhere. Later this evening showers move into Wairarapa then overnight into Hawkes Bay and Gisborne as south to southwesterly winds freshen

Western North Island

Cloudy periods with southeastely breezes, the odd shower overnight. North of Wanganui expect showers, some heavy with thunderstorms to clear later this evening as southwesterlies tend southeast. Clear spells overnight although the odd shower may move onto the coast south of Taranaki.

Wellington

Clear spells this evening, clouding up overnight with showers moving in. Southerlies.

Nelson & Kateriteri

Areas of cloud with northerlies easing later this evening, isolated showers inland clearing. Light winds overnight tend southwest.

Marlborough

Clear spells this evening, skies clouding up again overnight with a period of showers for a time. Easterly breezes.

Canterbury

Mostly cloudy skies with southerly breezes tending more easterly later this evening. Drizzle patches at times especially inland against the foothills.

Mainly clear skies overnight with light winds, showers about Buller clearing later this evening.
