The west to northwest airflow over the country eases slightly this evening and overnight for a time, cloudy areas out west with clear skies in the east. Later in the night a new front moves onto the West Coast of the South Island bringing increasing northwesterly winds and rain in the west.
Auckland & Northland
Areas of cloud with northwesterly breezes.
Tonight’s Lows: 13-14
Bay Of Plenty, Waikato &  Central North Island
Some cloud with northwesterly breezes, a spit or two of rain possible  overnight about the Waikato and Central North Island.
Tonight’s Lows: 12-13
Eastern North Island
Some high cloud, gusty northwesterly breezes.
Tonight’s Lows: 14-16
Western North Island
Fairly cloudy with gusty northwesterly winds, showers about Kapiti and  northern Taranaki.

Wellington
The odd shower turns to rain tomorrow morning, strong to gale  northerlies.

Nelson
Cloudy with some rain, possibly heavy and thundery at times. Gusty north to  northwesterly winds.

Marlborough
Cloudy with occasional rain spreading from the west, strong northwesterlies  gale force at times. A few thunderstorms possible about the Sounds.
Tonight’s Lows: 13-14
Canterbury
Mainly clear with gusty northwesterlies easing this evening.  Northwesterlies pick up again overnight about inland parts of Canterbury and  some rain may spread into the foothills by dawn.
Tonight’s Lows: 11-12
West Coast
Cloudy with the odd shower, thundery and heavy falls about Buller.  Overnight heavy thundery rain moves in, especially towards dawn. Northerly  winds.

Coastal Otago
Mainly clear skies with northwesterlies easing this evening, light winds  overnight.
Tonight’s Low: 8
Central Otago
Mainly clear skies with west to southwest winds easing this evening, light  northerlies overnight. Chance of a shower spreading from the west towards dawn  tomorrow.
Tonight’s Lows: 5-6
Southland
Mainly clear skies with northwesterlies easing later this evening, chance  of a shower towards dawn tomorrow.
