As of 10pm all thunderstorms have cleared New Zealand.
Earlier today hundreds of lightning flashes were detected every hour as afternoon heating produced thunderstorms mostly around eastern Taranaki and northern Wanganui.
In Northland heavy showers remain around Coopers Beach and eastern parts of the Far North and wont ease until about midnight.
A secondary band of rain & showers is now moving in to the Bay of Plenty, however it’s still well offshore north of White Island. Offshore it stretches as far north as the Bay of Islands. The rain band is falling apart as it moves in.
