This weekends headlines (x3): West Coast rain today, Warm in the east and north, Weather on Sunday

Here’s what is making the weather headlines today….

HEAVY RAIN WEST COAST

Some heavy rain moves northwards along the West Coast today thanks to a front, Metservice have a few watches out which you can see here.

There may be a rumble of thunder or two in the west also, you can view Metservice’s outlook on potential thunderstorms here.

WARM IN THE EAST AND NORTH

Canterbury northwards in the east and most of the North Island has reasonably warm temperatures this afternoon, highs likely in the late teens or early twenties. Canterbury northwards in the east may even reach into the mid twenties.

Later this afternoon or evening southerlies move through Canterbury bringing cooler temperatures.

WEATHER ON SUNDAY

A weakening front moves slowly northwards over the North Island today, high pressure sneaks in behind over the South Island.

North Island

Cloud in the west with showers or perhaps some rain, easing later today. Bay Of Plenty and Auckland northwards stays dry all day with some sun and light winds, Auckland may see a shower overnight. High cloud in the east, a few spots of rain south of Napier but this should clear away in the evening. Winds mostly from the northwest.

South Island

Cloud in the morning for the West Coast with a few showers then sunny spells increase with showers thinning out, west to southwesterly winds. Any early spits clear Nelson and Marlborough then sun breaks through. A mostly cloudy day along the east coast, it is mainly dry but there may also be a shower or two about, east to northeasterly winds. Fiordland and Southland have cloud and a few showers, west to northwest breezes, central Otago is drier and sunnier.
