The Daily Debrief – WEDNESDAY

WeatherWatch.co.nz

> From the WeatherWatch archives

It was a scorcher in some parts of the country today out east with the low 30s being hit. Lighter sea breezes in other coastal areas kept the temperatures about where they should be for this time of year however there were one or two exceptions such as Whangarei and Tauranga where it was a very warm day.

The hottest centres were Christchurch and Lyttleton with 33 degrees and the low was 17 shared by Milford Sound and Haast.

Again tonight the eastern areas of the mainland will feel the warmth as a norwester blows at times keeping the thermometer quite high. Generally though, the low to mid teens should be experienced across many regions.

Tomorrow the heat should be felt once more in Wairarapa, Hawkes Bay,  Gisborne and possibly in the Waikato too. Canterbury and Marlborugh may continue to bake but elsewhere temperatures appear to be relatively pleasant apart from the far south and west of the mainland possibly with cooler and damper conditions.

Hi Phil, can I ask what it’ll be like tomorrow in the Bay of Islands? We have visitors and were thinking about fishing and taking the dolphin boat? Will it still be sunny?
thanks xx

Some afternoon clouds creeping in along with a building easterly much later in the day.  nothing too major but those nor’east swells might start to pick up a bit.

Cheers!

Phil.

sounds like it’ll be ok for most of the actual day. x

The sea breeze here was rather windy though was pleasant because of the hard sun, looking at the needles on the concrete and inspite of intense blue dome sun the temp only got to about 23°c with no humidity at all.

Sadly, it only got up to 32.2C today. Maybe warmer tomorrow?

Hmmm…I don’t think tomorrow will be warmer.  Might even be a little bit cloudier which might just keep the temps around 30.   Will be another wait and see I think!!

Some impressive figures from weather stations within Chch today that’s for sure…shows the difference buildings and roads make.

Phil
