Unstable air is expected to continue over much of the North Island tonight with some rain or showers but this should have cleared or be clearing in the south and west. Temperatures could be quite high during the hours of darkness in Northland overnight with Dargaville not expecting temperatures to fall much below 20 degrees but in Tokoroa and Masteron, it’s unlikely for the mercury to remain in double figures.

The South Island is quite the reverse with clear skies in many areas although some cloud along the east coast and the Canterbury Plains is expected to creep in.Chilly tonight for those under starry skies, especially in Marlborough and Central Otago, with Blenheim and Wanaka looking at lows of about 8 degrees.

Tomorrow conditions should improve over the North Island but in the north and east, still some precipitation is likely at some point.

For the mainland, mostly clear skies once that cloud burns off in the east and the UV index remaining very high to extreme.
