A low just west of New Zealand brings in cool southerlies and some rain for the South Island on Wednesday, rain will gradually move over the North Island during the day coming in from the west.

For the upper North Island expect mostly cloudy skies, a few showers from late afternoon or evening. About the lower western North Island, expect the odd shower then some rain from afternoon, winds generally from the west or northwest. Sunny areas and some high cloud for the east coast, winds from the northwest. Some rain moves into Wairarapa during the afternoon with southerlies.

Cloudy about Nelson / Marlborough, dry at first then rain develops during the morning. Canterbury sees morning rain then showers, cool south to southeasterly winds. Mostly cloudy along the West Coast and about Otago with areas of rain or showers, Southland is mainly dry after any morning rain clears.
