Still warmer than average today for northeastern parts of the North Island and the east of the South Island, but this will change as southerlies about the far south spread northwards during today. Temperatures will start to get warmer as we head into the weekend however some eastern spots may have mild temperatures from Wednesday.
Temperatures cooling down a fair bit for the South Island tonight as can be seen in the map below. Ignore the numerical figures, there must be an error there as those are for today’s highs in various centers around New Zealand. Temperatures will likely get down to between 2 and 6 degrees for Southland up through to Canterbury in the east. 6 to 8 degrees for the West Coast, Nelson and Marlborough. Overnight lows for the North Island range between 7 and 13 degrees, the coldest lows will be about the Central Plateau with warmer overnight lows more about the coast.
