A westerly quarter airflow brings warmer than average temperatures to New Zealand today especially for the eastern South Island with highs likely getting into the late teens for some spots. Highs get into the late teens for the eastern North Island also. Prepare for a cool down over the South Island on Friday as a cold front moves northwards over the Island, this starts to move onto the lower North Island from afternoon.
Expect frosty conditions coming up for the South Island by dawn on Saturday (especially inland), the same goes for overnight Saturday and the areas likely to dip below zero are shown in the map below.
