Average to warm temperatures for the North Island today, the coolest spots will be about Hawkes Bay / Gisborne and eastern fringe areas from Coromandel up through to Northland due to an easterly airflow. The eastern South Island is warm as a northwesterly airflow builds ahead of a weakening cold front, it hits the lower South Island this afternoon reaching the likes of Canterbury overnight.
A light frost is possible overnight tonight about inland parts of the South Island, especially Central Otago and Fiordland. Cool temperatures can be expected about the South Island on Friday with highs ranging from 10 to 15 degrees, Nelson and Marlborough and inland Buller may crack into the late teens. The North Island has highs from the mid to late teens although parts of Northland may see 20 degrees.
