A very cold southwesterly airflow covers the country tonight and as a result we see very cold temperatures. The inner South Island sees tonight’s coldest overnight lows getting down to between -3 and -6 degrees. Frosts are likely about all of Marlborough, Canterbury and South Westland. Frosty conditions are also likely about the lower / eastern North Island inland away from the coast.
Tonight’s warmest overnight low will be Kaitaia on 10 degrees.
Conditions ease on Wednesday, still fairly cold but most regions see temperatures return into double figures. Just parts of Southland and coastal Otago may struggle to get out of single figures. Some inland areas and South Canterbury / South Westland will have sunny skies and light winds, don’t expect balmy warm weather but it should be quite pleasant in these spots.
