A little ridging brings cool overnight lows to the South Island tonight north of Southland, lows getting down to between 0 and 2 degrees likely. Southland itself and coastal Otago has some cloud cover and or wind keeping temperatures above freezing. Low pressure and generally a more disturbed pattern for the North Island keeps overnight lows mostly warmer than average although Auckland and Northland may feel a touch cool.
Not all that warm for eastern New Zealand on Wednesday, cool southerly quarter winds hamper temperatures. Rain for the North Island’s east coast certainly doesn’t bring warm weather. Western regions fair better as can be seen in the yellow, orange and red coloured areas below.
The warmest highs go to Waikato, Bay Of Plenty, Auckland and Northland on 16 to 17 degrees. The coolest temperatures will be about Southland and coastal Otago on 9 to 10 degrees.
And yes that’s right, only 2 and a bit weeks till spring!
